Sizemore Academy gymnasts deliver podium finishes at state AAU meet

Gymnasts at Sizemore Gymnastics Academy competed in the 2023 North Carolina AAU Championship on May 6-7 at Hickory Convention Center in Hickory.

Neysah Engle, Collins Kerr and Josephine Wallace represented SGA at the AAU Xcel Bronze level. Kendall Medina, Aria Springs, Alia Vorbe and Emma Whitehurst represented SGA at the AAU Xcel Silver level. Genevieve Ard and ScottLynn Whiteside participated at the AAU Xcel Gold level while Sherlyn Trejo and Kylie Whitinger competed at the AAU Xcel Platinum level.

SGA Bronze: Engle earned first all-around with 37.225 from her first on floor with 9.55, second on vault with 9.25, tied for third on bars with 9.25 and fourth on beam with 9.175. Kerr received fourth in her division with 36.4 all-around from her tie for third on floor with 9.2, third on vault with 9.15, fourth on bars with 9.25, and 8.8 on beam. Wallace achieved third all-around with 36.075 from her tie for second on bars with 9.275, 9.075 on beam, 8.975 on floor and 8.75 on vault.

SGA Silver: Medina earned 36.225 from her fourth place on bars with 9.275, 9.175 on beam, 9.05 on vault and 8.725 on floor. Springs was fifth all-around with 36.325 from her 9.25 on bars, 9.2 on beam, 9.05 on vault and 8.825 on floor. Vorbe earned third place all-around in her division with 37.55 from her first on beam with 9.65, tied for third on vault with 9.4, 9.275 on floor and 9.225 on bars. Whitehurst was fifth all-around with 36.5 from her 9.3 on bars, 9.2 on vault, 9.2 on beam and 8.8 on floor.

SGA Gold: Ard achieved first in her division with 37.35 all-around from her first on vault with 9.475, second on bars with 9.35, second on beam with9.3 and 9.225 on floor. Whiteside earned second all-around in her division with 36.6 from her second on beam with 9.275, third on vault with 9.3, 9.025 on floor and 9.0 on bars.

SGA Platinum: Trejo earned first all-around in her division with 36.8 all-around from her first on beam with 9.625, first on floor with 9.55, tied for fourth on vault with 9.025 and 8.6 on bars. Whitinger received 32.825 all-around from her 8.95 on floor, 8.575 on beam, 7.8 on vault and 7.5 on bars.

The gymnasts will compete next at Southeastern Regionals on May 13-14 in Pigeon Forge, Tenn.
