Simply the best: Polk golfers complete drive to MF7 championship

Polk County’s boys golf team capped its regular season Tuesday with a conference championship.

The Wolverines won the final Mountain Foothills 7 Conference match of the season, placing more than 30 strokes ahead of the field in competition at Meadowbrook Golf Club.

Polk also wrapped up its first MF7 conference title in the process, finishing the season-long competition with a 145-stroke advantage over Hendersonville. It is the second conference championship in three seasons for Polk, with the Wolverines also winning the 2021 Western Highlands Conference crown.

Polk posted a team score of 302 on Tuesday, with Evan Jones firing a 74 to share medalist honors with Brock Reid of Chase. Reilly Yoder and Casey Beiler shared third place with scores of 75, with Avery Harden carding a 78 to finish tied for sixth.

Myles Menetre added a 98.

Hendersonville had a team score of 336, with East Rutherford posting a 339. Chase placed fourth with 345, followed by R-S Central (358), Patton (360) and Brevard (367).

All four Polk golfers also earned all-conference honors, based on total scores posted throughout the season in conference matches. Reid finished as the low scorer for the season, followed by Garret Pinkerton of Chase. Yoder, Jones, Beiler and Harden followed.

Ian Wright of Hendersonville, Brady Chamberlain of Patton, Watson, Jacon Holland and Brandt Herndon of East Rutherford and Aaron Chaves of R-S Central rounded out the all-conference squad.

Polk County will next compete in the 2A West Regional on Tuesday at Glen Oaks Golf Club in Maiden.
