- Alex Perry tossed six-plus scoreless innings in Thursday's win
Alex Perry and Lawson Carter teamed on a shutout Thursday to lead Polk County to a 9-0 victory over East Henderson in a non-conference baseball battle in Flat Rock.
Polk County improved to 7-8 with the triumph, with East Henderson now 6-7.
How it happened: Perry tossed 6 2/3 innings, having to leave before the final batter due to pitch count rules. He scattered seven hits and struck out seven.
The Wolverines grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first as Angus Weaver walked, stole second and scored on Karson Scruggs’ one-out single.
It remained a one-run game until the sixth, when Polk erupted for six runs. Gunnar Alm and Carter singled to open the inning, with Weaver drawing a walk to load the bases.
Avery Hensley singled to drive in Alm, and Noah Harden followed with a double that scored Carter and Weaver. A dropped third strike allowed Scruggs to reach base, Harden to move to third and Hensley to score to make it 5-0.
Cohen Edwards then dropped a sacrifice bunt to score Harden, and Mason Beiler followed with a double that drove in Scruggs to make it 7-0.
The Wolverines added two runs in the seventh as Carter doubled, Hensley walked, Landen Bradley laced a run-scoring single and Hensley scored during a double steal attempt with Bradley.
At the plate: Harden finished 2-for-3 with two RBI, with Carter 2-for-4 with two runs. Alm, Hensley, Bradley, Scruggs and Beiler each added a hit.
