The sequel to the popular book, The Day Morris Quit with whimsical illustrations by Ron Mosseller, continues the story of Morris the Horse and his friendship with the skinny little boy. Worried that his new friend will not have time for him once he goes to school in the fall, Morris’ outlook on life changes when his friend brings him to school for show and tell and he realizes he doesn’t have to try to be like the classmates and can be a success by just being himself.

The story’s message about realizing one’s strong points and working towards achieving them is in keeping with the social and emotional learning keys to growth mindset.

Our students thoroughly enjoyed Mrs. Edgar’s previous visit and love checking out The Day Morris Quit from the library,” said Jamie Kilgore, Media Coordinator at Tryon Elementary School.” I know they will be excited to learn about the sequel and Mrs. Edgar’s return.”

A lifestyle journalist for over 35 years, Edgar has also worked with children as a professional actress, mime, and storyteller. The local author’s other books include, In My Mother’ Kitchen; Personal Legacies: Surviving the Great Depression; Fantastic Recycled Plastic, and The Day Morris Quit

Mosseller worked as an artist and illustrator for almost 70 years. His work on The Day Morris Quit was his last creative endeavor before he passed away. Julia Warren Calhoun adapted the illustrations for The Day Morris Went to School from Mossellor’s original images from the first Morris book.
