The second-place showing earned Sunday by Polk County Volleyball Club’s 16U squad perhaps didn’t reflect just how well the team played.
PCVC’s team, comprised of players in grades 7-11, competed in the 15/16 Blue division at the Southeast Alliance Volleyball League’s Spring Madness tourney in Spartanburg. The Blue division features the top teams in the age group, with 16 teams battling in the class.
Yet PCVC rolled undefeated into the championship game, without dropping a set, before falling 25-14, 25-21 to Stars 16 Scout, a Spartanburg-based squad that includes current Polk County player Lexi Beiler.
PCVC’s other teams also fared well at the event. PCVC’s 13U squad won the Bronze division of the 13 Club class, going 4-2 for the weekend. PCVC 13 capped the tourney with a 25-27, 25-17, 15-11 victory over Carolina Junior Volleyball 12 Emily of Charlotte.
PCVC’s 15U team finished 1-4 for the weekend in the 15 Club division, scoring a 25-14, 25-11 victory over Crossfire 15 Emma from the Belton area.
