Sizemore gymnasts help raise funds for Camp Luck, earn medals at Concord meet

Gymnasts from Sizemore Gymnastics Academy in Tryon competed Feb. 18-19 in the Lucky Charm Invitational in Concord.

The event has a dual purpose, raising funds for Camp Luck and children with congenital heart disease while also providing a forum for competition for regional gymnasts.

Collins Kerr and Josephine Wallace represented SGA at the AAU Xcel Bronze level. Kendall Medina, Aria Springs, Alia Vorbe and Emma Whitehurst represented SGA at the AAU Xcel Silver level. Genevieve Ard and ScottLynn Whiteside participated at the AAU Xcel Gold level, with Sherlyn Trejo and Kylie Whitinger competing at the AAU Xcel Platinum level.

For SGA Bronze, Kerr earned second all-around in her division with 36.05 from her first on bars with 9.15, first on floor with 9.0, second on beam with 9.075 and 8.825 on vault. Wallace raised her all-around more than a full point to 36.05 by raising her beam six-tenths to 9.225 as well as receiving 9.05 on bars, 9.0 on vault and 8.775 on floor.

For SGA’s Silver team, Medina received 35.375 all-around from her second on vault with 9.45, 8.75 on beam and 8.7 on bars. Springs earned fourth all-around in her division with 35.95 from her tie for third on floor with 8.7, tie for fourth on beam with 9.15, tie for fourth on bars with 9.05 and 9.05 on vault. Vorbe achieved 36.2 all-around from her first on vault with 9.375, tie for first on floor with 9.075, 9.05 on bars and 8.7 on beam. Whitehurst raised her score to 35.975 for third place all-around in her division from her first on bars with 9.35, 9.075 on beam, and 8.975 on vault.

For SGA Gold, Ard tied for fourth all-around in her division with 36.325 from her first on beam with 9.3, fourth on vault with 9.175, 8.95 on floor and 8.95 on bars. Whiteside received fourth in her division with 35.325 all-around from second on beam with 9.125, fourth on bars with 8.875, 8.675 on vault and 8.65 on floor.

For Xcel Platinum, Trejo received second all-around in her division with 36.025 all-around from her first on beam with 9.45, third on bars with 9.275, and 9.175 on floor. Whitinger earned 32.075 all-around from raising her bar score to 8.15, as well as 8.15 on vault and 8.05 on floor.

The gymnasts will next compete March 4-5 at Forever Our Legacy in Jekyll Island, Ga.
