Polk County freshman Bailey Staton has been named the Mountain Foothills 7 Conference Girls Basketball Player of the Year.
Staton is the first Wolverine to earn a conference player of the year honor since Hayley Kropp was named the Western Highlands Conference’s top player in 2016.
Sophomore Kylie Lewis joined Staton on the All-MF7 team, the second straight year that Lewis has earned all-conference recognition.
Staton averaged 16.6 points, 3.7 assists and 3.3 rebounds per game this season in helping lead Polk County to a 13-13 record and a 2A playoff appearance. Staton scored 31 points in the Wolverines’ 69-47 win over Patton, 30 points in Polk’s 67-52 loss to Hendersonville in the semifinals of the MF7 postseason tournament and reached double figures in 21 of Polk’s 23 games.
Lewis averaged 12.3 points and 11 rebounds per game this season for Polk County. She set a single-game record with her 12 2-point field goals against Owen, and her 131 2-point field goals and 287 rebounds for the season were just shy of the school records of 137 and 301, respectively.
Hendersonville’s Stephen Rogers was named the conference Coach of the Year.
