Wolverine junior Jadyn Virgil finished sixth Saturday in the 2A 182-pound class at the NCHSAA 87th Annual Individual Wrestling State Tournament in Greensboro, becoming the 17th state placer in school history.

Virgil defeated Burns’ Nathan Tucker with a 7-2 decision to open his action on Saturday. Virgil then fell to East Surry’s Eli Becker in the consolation semifinals before falling to Bandys’ Camden Mongene in the fifth-place match.

Virgil defeated Mongene on Friday in his first match of the tournament.

Virgil is the first Polk state place since Preston Burnett placed second in 2020 and the first Wolverine to place in a 2A state tourney since Chase Emory in 2015.
