COLUMBUS–Polk County is one step closer to a new YMCA facility.

The Polk County Board of Commissioners met Monday and accepted a donation of approximately 7 acres of land along Hwy. 108. According to County Manager Marche Pittman, the site is where a new YMCA facility will be constructed.

The property is located between the Milliken Plant and Fox Mountain Rd.

The Polk County YMCA Committee vetted the location and recommended to the Commissioners that they accept the donation.

Surveys are being completed on the property, so the exact acreage is still unknown at this time.

“Polk County is excited about the opportunity that this gift creates for all the citizens of Polk County,” said Pittman. “We are also excited about how it will further our opportunities to collaborate with the Spartanburg YMCA on a new community center.”
