Dr. Warren Carson was the speaker at the Kiwanis Club of Tryon on Wednesday, January 18. 

He spoke to the club about Tryon’s Roseland Community Center. Roseland was founded as a community center to serve as a safe place for African American children to play during the era of segregation. 

Today, Roseland has recreational facilities, a community reading room and is a frequent site for family reunions and community meetings. Each summer, Roseland Community Center hosts a two-week program for local youth called R.I.S.E., Roseland’s Institute for Summer Enrichment.
