Polk honors state track champions at ring ceremony

Polk County’s track and field program produced three state championship performances at the 2022 2A outdoor meet.
Those title-winning Wolverines were honored Wednesday during halftime of Polk County’s girls basketball game with Madison, with each state winner receiving championship rings during a short ceremony.
Polk County Schools Superintendent Aaron Greene, athletic director DeShane Briscoe, head track and field coach Alan Peoples and assistant coaches Dewayne Elliott and Amanda Simoncic presented the rings to the athletes, many of whom graduated last season and are now competing at the college level.
Those honored during the ceremony included:
- Girls 4×800-meter relay team: Olivia Overholt, Lindsey Jenkins, Tori Thompson, Kinsley Huskey, Karsyn Huskey
- Boys 4×400-meter relay team: Braxton Edwards, Cole Pereira, Nathaniel Rhein, Bryce Jergenson, Isaiah Spears
- Girls 800-meter run: Olivia Overholt
