Weaver, Simpson earn selection to All-WNC football squad

Polk County senior Angus Weaver and junior Antonio Simpson have been named to the All-Western North Carolina football team as chosen by the Citizen-Times in Asheville.

Weaver earned first-team selection as a linebacker, where last season had 120 tackles, 14 of those for loss, six sacks, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. He also rushed for more than 1,600 yards en route to earning selection for the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas.

Simpson earned second-team selection as a wide receiver. He finished the season with a school-record 1,094 yards on 50 catches, with six touchdowns. Defensively, he recorded 45 tackles, two sacks, one interception, three fumble recoveries and a forced fumble.

West Henderson wide receiver Truitt Manuel was named to the WNC Offensive Player of the Year while Reynolds’ free safety DaShawn Stone earned Defensive Player of the Year selection. Andrews’ James Phillips received Coach of the Year.
