Tryon–Shirley Ann McDade Burrell, 73, of Tryon went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on December 22, 2022, at the Upstate Community Hospice House after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was the daughter of the late John Thomas and Agnes McDade.

She was a native of Polk County and thought there was no greater place. She was a graduate of the old Green Creek School and Polk Central High School. After high school, she attended and graduated from Isothermal Community College, where she met Kenneth Danny Burrell, who would become her husband and best friend for 51 years.

Before graduating from Isothermal, she was hired on and later retired from the state of North Carolina after a 35-year career in the continuing education department at Isothermal’s Spindale campus.

She was an active member of Green Creek First Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband Kenneth; two daughters, Monica Pierce (Nickey) and Jennifer Morton; her mother-in-law, Betty Burrell Rogers (Charles); a brother, Chalmers McDade; a sister-in-law, Wanda Burrell Workman (Kenneth); a brother-in-law, Erwin Burrell; grandchildren, Britney Pierce Trull (Michael), Justin Pierce, Anna Morton, Abigail Morton, and Leah Morton; and a great-grandson Wyatt Trull. She also had many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

She was predeceased by five brothers; Norris McDade, Preston McDade, Clifford (Bub) McDade, John Dean McDade, and William “Bill” McDade.

The family will receive friends from 12:45-2:00 pm, Monday, December 26, 2022 at Green Creek First Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at the church at 2:00 pm conducted by Rev. Allen McKinney and Rev. Jerry White. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Upstate Community Hospice House, 260 Fairwinds Road, Landrum, SC 29356. or to the Green Creek First Baptist Church window fund,  534 Coxe Road, Columbus, NC  28722.

 The family will be at the home.
