Polk suffers conference setback at Hendersonville

Hendersonville closed the first half with a key run Tuesday and went on to hand Polk County a 72-52 defeat in Mountain Foothills 7 Conference boys basketball play in Hendersonville.
The Wolverines dropped to 3-6 overall, 0-2 in league play on a night where head coach Lemont Jones took part in the 600th game of his head coaching career. Hendersonville improved to 7-2, 1-1.
Polk County held its own early with the Bearcats, trailing 18-16 in the second quarter when Hendersonville closed the period with a 19-2 run, taking a 37-18 advantage at the break. Hendersonville’s Coby Retana had eight of his team-high 14 points in the quarter.
The Wolverines kept the deficit around that margin for much of the second half but could never draw closer.
Kris Littlejohn had 13 points to lead Polk County, with freshman Aaron Jackson scoring 11, all in the second half.
Wayne Carson added eight points, with Antonio Simpson and Avery Harden each scoring five. Khalil Watley added four, with Landen Bradley scoring three, Karlen McEntyre finishing with two and Vincent Twitty adding one.
Polk County will return to its schedule following the holiday break, traveling Jan. 3 to R-S Central for another conference matchup.
