Former Polk County soccer standout Reese Alley will close her college playing career Saturday with an appearance in the 2022 New England Women’s Intercollegiate Soccer Association’s (NEWISA) Senior Bowl.
Alley, a senior at MIT, was chosen to play in the all-star game, which features players from NCAA Division I, II and III schools in New England. MIT has three players appearing in the game, which will be held at Clark University beginning at 11 a.m.
A team captain and leader of the MIT defense as an outside back, Alley helped MIT achieve a 15-5-3 record this season, with the Engineers advancing to the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament. She anchored an MIT defense that allowed just 11 goals in 23 games.
Alley was also selected to the 2022 All-Sportsmanship Team for the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference. The All-Sportsmanship Team award is intended to recognize one student-athlete from each institution in every sport that best demonstrates the ideals of the NEWMAC and its Code of Conduct, regardless of their overall performance or statistics for the season.
Alley is a three-time NEWMAC Academic All-Conference selection, majoring in brain and cognitive science. She appeared in 61 games, with 23 starts, in her MIT career, also scoring her first career goal earlier this season.
