Brevard’s junior varsity held off a second-half Polk County challenge, handing the Wolverines a 3-1 loss Monday in G.M. Tennant Stadium.
The Blue Devils (3-4-1) grabbed a 2-0 halftime lead in the matchup of Mountain Foothills 7 Conference squads.
But Polk County (2-6-1) sliced the deficit early in the second half as Noah Greve lofted a high free kick from some 40 yards out that sailed just over the Brevard goalkeeper, nestling in the back of the net to make it a 2-1 match.
The Wolverines had other scoring chances in the half, but were unable to get the equalizer before Brevard added a late insurance goal.
Polk County is set to be in action again next Monday, hosting Hendersonville.
