Apple Valley turned an early goal Wednesday into another 1-0 win over Polk County Middle.
The Knights tallied in the opening minutes of the match, then relied on their defense to hold the Wolverines at bay and record the one-goal win at Utz Field in Blue Ridge Conference boys soccer action.
Polk Middle dropped to 3-4-1 overall with the loss, the second 1-0 setback this season against Apple Valley (4-3).
All was not lost, though, for the Wolverines, who recorded a 2-0 victory in fifth-quarter play.
Thomas Santibanez opened the scoring in the 20-minute session just three minutes in, converting a pass from Wells Highsmith. Oakley Whiteside then upped the lead as he pressured a defender into losing possession of the ball and hit a low left-footed shot into the right corner of the net.
Jackson Blotner and Santibanez teamed in goal for the shutout.
Polk Middle returns to the field on Monday, traveling to Hendersonville Middle.
