The Durham family is inviting anyone that is a Durham, descendant of a Durham, friend of a Durham or just wants to meet the family to come to the Durham Family Reunion. It will be held on October 8 at 3 p.m., at Harmon Field in Tryon, in the shelter next to the creek. The family will be serving beef brisket, BBQ and all the fixings!

The story passed down through the generations is that there were two Durham brothers that came to Dark Corner in the late 1700s from England. One brother disappeared and was never found. The other brother made the area his home and had descendants spread throughout the area. Due to the secretive, outlaw nature of the Durham family, much information about the family is not known. (Durhams were infamous bootleggers in Dark Corner.)

It is known that there was an Arie Durham that lived during the 1800s. She never married but had several sons. Some of the sons were William, Luther, Rufus, Mark, Rhone, Warren and Holland. There were possibly more. The family hopes to connect with descendants of any of these brothers and would love to discover more of the story!
