UPSTATE––Residents of Spartanburg County have been receiving phone calls in which someone is posing as Sheriff Chuck Wright.

According to Lieutenant Kevin Bobo at Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office and Detention Center, sergeants received at least four calls last week from citizens stating that a male claiming to be Sheriff Wright has called them and told them that they are under some sort of investigation.

The caller, Bobo says, is ‘spoofing’ the main number of the Sheriff’s Office, so the call appears to be coming from 864-503-4500.

“We just want to reassure citizens Sheriff Wright hasn’t made any such calls,” says Lieutenant Bobo. He urged residents not to provide any sort of personal or financial information to anyone claiming to be the Sheriff.

If you have received a call from a man claiming to be Sheriff Wright, you are urged to report it to the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office. Anyone who has been scammed out of money is asked to file a report with the Sheriff’s Office so the matter can be investigated.
