The Southern Pet opened on August 1, coining the phrase, “A natural approach for the health and wellness of your furry companion.”

The Southern Pet is a natural pet supply store whose inventory comes from small businesses and single manufacturing, with single source ingredients and sustainable sourcing. The store caters to both dogs and cats, carrying an array of fresh foods, supplemented with a more holistic approach than a pharmaceutical approach. They also carry toys, natural chews, and treats. The Southern Pet’s newest addition is horse supplements.

“Everything that goes into their body is beneficial,” owner Stephanie Bakanosky says.

The natural and holistic field is something that Stephanie is quite familiar with, as she has been working with animals in one way or another for many years.

She noticed that the lifespan of pets seemed to be dwindling, so she started conducting some research.

“I noticed that more dogs are getting cancer, skin and coat issues, diabetes, and dying younger,” she says. “So I started looking into species-appropriate diets.”

She found that feeding pets the correct food fuels their bodies better.

Currently, Stephanie is meeting new people and enjoying her warm welcome to downtown Landrum, where she has lived for one year. In the next couple of months, she is planning on having a grand opening for The Southern Pet.
