Columbus– Carolyn Opal Pittman Sauve, 88 of Columbus NC, passed away July 29, 2022, at Willow Ridge in Rutherfordton. She was the wife of Joseph E. “Jack” Sauve and daughter of the late Floyd and Nina Morris Pittman.

She was a former member of the Philadelphia Presbyterian Church in Landrum and worked for NC Travel and Tourism. She was a wife of 69 years with 20 of those years being a military wife, a Sunday school teacher for 25 years, and a graduate of Isothermal Community College where she would later serve as a board member, she was the very first woman elected to the Polk County Board of Commissioners in 1978 and served as the Chair of the Board.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons,  Floyd (Janet) Sauve, Ken (Teresa) Sauve, Tim (Barbara) Sauve; grandchildren, Kenneth Sauve, Bethany Gallagher, John J. Sauve, Candace Sauve, Caroline Edwards, David Sauve, Matthew Sauve, and Danielle Sauve; great-grandchildren, Liam Gallagher, Evan Gallagher, Johnny Sauve, Josephine Sauve, Kennedy Sauve, and Carter Suave.

She was predeceased by brothers, Harold, Homer, and Charles Pittman; sisters, Virl Case, Grace Pusey, Violet Williams, and Joyce Walker.

The family will receive friends 10:00 – 11:00 am on Thursday, August 4, 2022, at  Hickory Grove Baptist Church where a service will follow at 11:00 am conducted by Dr. Jerry Wendell.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.
