North Carolina’s former Supreme Court Chief Justice and candidate for US Senate Cheri Beasley met with voters in Tryon in mid-June. Speaking at an outdoor gathering at Harmon Field, she discussed her background, and major issues for Polk County, and took questions from attendees. She described her background as a person of faith and mother, and her 20-year career as a public defender, judge, and North Carolina’s first African-American Supreme Court Chief Justice. She discussed issues of equal rights, equal justice, and voting access for all citizens, as well as affordable healthcare and housing, quality education, and job opportunities – particularly for rural areas like Polk County. She was very well-received, meeting personally with many of the attendees.
