Local airports drop face mask requirement

FOOTHILLS––As of Monday, mask use was no longer mandated in North Carolina and South Carolina airports. Both GSP (Greenville Spartanburg Airport) and AVL (Ashville Regional Airport) no longer require travelers to wear masks inside the airport or on board flights.
Tuesday morning, AVL tweeted on their Twitter page, “Per TSA’s removal of its federal mask mandate, masks are now optional at AVL. The CDC continues to recommend that people wear masks in indoor public transportation settings at this time.”
Alaska, Delta, and United Airlines also posted that masks are no longer required on domestic flights and select international flights.
GSP recently released, “Face masks are optional for all passengers and visitors in the terminal and on board aircraft.”
The CDC (Center of Disease Control) states that as of April 18, the CDC’s January 29, 2021 order that required masks on public transportation conveyances is no longer in effect.
Regardless of vaccination status, however, passengers must still show a negative Covid-19 test taken no more than 24-hours before traveling.
President Biden administrated that masks be worn aboard planes and other public means of transportation, but US District Judge Kathryn Kimball Mizelle of Florida called the policy “unlawful” and struck down the CDC’s order that went into effect early 2021.
The White House later reported that the CDC’s public transportation masking order is no longer in effect.
