Tryon– The Children of JoAnn Medley Gallagher are saddened to share the news of her passing into eternal peace Sunday, February 20, 2022.  JoAnn was born to Joseph Earl Medley and Ruth Cook Medley on February 12, 1945, in Granite City, Illinois.  She grew up in Paducah, Kentucky.  She was first married to Michael L. Walker.  She was the widow of Johnny E. Gallagher.  JoAnn retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard.  A private graveside will be held on March 19th at Mepkin Abbey, Moncks Corner, SC.
She will be remembered by her family for her ability to create delicious meals from the simplest of ingredients, her exquisite penmanship, which she fondly remembered learning from the Sisters at St. Mary’s Academy (Paducah, KY), and in recent years her enjoyment of playing Scrabble and “dollar-store” shopping!  Most of all, her family will remember her capacity to be polite and gracious in the most trying of circumstances, and her generous, forgiving heart.  May perpetual light shine upon her.
She is survived by her children, Anita Paulette Walker of Goose Creek, SC, Dawn R. Schlecht of Goose Creek, SC, and Frank M. Walker of Tryon, NC; sister, Darlene Schmitz of Paducah, Kentucky; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
As JoAnn loved all stray animals, memorials may be made to the Foothills Humane Society at P.O. Box 985, Columbus, NC 28722 or to https://foothillshumanesociety.org/donate/
