There was a full house at the recent Tales of Tryon. In an unscheduled agenda item, Betty Hill was called to the front of the audience where Linda Lee Reynolds surprised her by inducting her into the Second Wind Hall of Fame. The unsuspecting Hill was truly caught off guard.

The Second Wind Hall of Fame was established to recognize local volunteers who, after retirement, have caught a “Second Wind” and gone on to help their community in myriad ways.  To qualify for nomination, one must be at least 65 years of age, no longer employed and involved in multiple local charities who are non-profit, 501 (c) (3) organizations.  Nominees are selected by one of the organizations where they volunteer.

Linda Lee Reynolds, a Past-President of Second Wind was excited to recognize Betty Hill.  Betty has been a faithful volunteer for the Tryon History Museum since the beginning in 2014.  She serves as a docent and is always present to help at special events.  In addition, she sings with The Tryon Community Chorus and with her church choir at Tryon Presbyterian.  Another organization to which Betty is dedicated is Hospice.  This is a ministry that is very dear to her. 

Second Wind Hall of Fame is open to nominations made by any local charitable 501 (c)(3) organization. In addition to honoring the volunteers, Second Wind also awards scholarships to working adults in Polk County who wish to further their education.
