The public is invited to a reading/book signing by Columbus author Maryneal Jones on Sunday, November 21 at 3 p.m. at The Congregational Church, UCC in Tryon, at 210 Melrose Avenue.
Due to Covid safety measures, distancing and masking will be required in the church. To reserve a seat telephone 828-894-5784 by Thursday, Nov. 18.
In her 87th year, Ms. Jones has penned a memoir with humor and insight of childhood influences, a journalistic career, ministry with her clergy husband, widowhood, retirement, world travel and natural history exploration.
The author offers a compelling story of overcoming obstacles, mistakes, failures and disappointments to achieve a life of fulfillment and joy. In Fullness of Life is an account of growing up in the segregated South, breaking the mold for genteel Southern women, and the impact of social and political issues of her time.
A writer whose work brought numerous awards and honors, Ms. Jones was a frequent voice in the literary Open Stage in the upstate community. TEDxTryon 2015 chose her among 17 speakers. Her essay from that event remains on YouTube. Widely published in newspapers and magazines, she is the author of a biography, institutional histories and an anthology.
Previewing the Jones memoir, Frances Flynn of Tryon writes, “Reading In Fullness of Life is like indulging in chocolate while listening to Groucho Marx. It tells the story of a loving and compassionate woman who was for justice and fairness while always being ready to do stand-up comedy. It’s irresistible.”
