Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Letter to the editor

During  September the Town of Tryon hit a home run at Appalachian State University. Tryon Town manager Zach Ollis was the vice-president and organizer of the ASU Local Government Alumni Annual Conference for this year.

Zach organized and presented a great conference for the ASU alumni from half a dozen states. There were classes for a number of different subjects that were beneficial to the attendees.

Our very own Paige Henderson spoke about being a woman serving in local government. She was well received and was soundly praised for her presentation. Since returning to Tryon and working at her job as Tryon Downtown Development Association she has met with some business people who have an interest in locating here. I heard the statement made that “Paige is the best hire for Tryon in years. She could sell ice to Eskimos.”

Apparently our star of the conference was Dr. Warren Carson. The report that I received was that Dr. Carson sat on a panel concerning diversity, equality, and inclusion in local government. The report that I was given said that Tryon’s Dr. Carson “Hit a home run with his responses, and he was able to really get the attendees to respond.”

As the chief elected official of this fantastic bit of paradise that we call Tryon, I ask that you join me in congratulating these three people for representing our “acre of diamonds” in the best possible light during a difficult time in our history when many choose to be negative.

Bravo Warren, Paige, and Zach!
