HENDERSONVILLE — Jack Wallace Johnson, 82, of Hendersonville and Dade City, FL went home to be with his Lord, Saturday, July 31, 2021.

Born in Polk County, Jack was the son of the late Grady Johnson and Louise (Thompson) Johnson. Jack grew up in Saluda where he attended school for 12 years. He drove a school bus from 9th grade threw 12th grade and graduated in 1957. 

Jack had only one girlfriend in school, Virginia Davis, they were inseparable. Jack and Virginia married on December 10, 1960 and made their home in Hendersonville. Jack worked for Southern Railway and retired after 20 years of service, and he went into Long Haul Truck, retiring and started a junking business and continued until his death.

Jack was a member of the Moose Lodge in Dade City and in 2014, Jack received Moose’s highest honor at Moose International, that of Pilgrim. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Davis Johnson; his brother, Harold “Buzz” Johnson; his furry companions, Tuffy (19yrs.) and Zipper (16yrs.). 

Survivors include his sister, Harriet Crawford (Frank), his long-time partner, Gail Schafer; her children, Christina Goble and Thomas Schafer; sister-in-law, Brenda Johnson; nieces and nephews, Lisa Ross, Tony Johnson (Christina) Kaleb & Logan, Judy Rowland, Doc Hyder, Dina Rowland Bardin (Richard), and Dusty Rowland (Andi). He also leaves behind his four-legged companion, Weezy and a host of friends.

A graveside service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, August 28, 2021 in Saluda City Cemetery with Reverend Jimmy Metcalf officiating.
