County purchasing Duke Energy property near Gibson Park for $50K

COLUMBUS—Polk County is purchasing a little over 2 acres of land from Duke Energy. 

The Polk County Board of Commissioners met Monday and approved purchasing the land, located near the recreation complex and Gibson Pool off Park Street in Columbus. 

The purchase price is $50,000. 

Commissioners approved a motion to allow the county manager to execute the contract as well as a budget amendment for a total project cost of $60,000, including attorney fees. 

Commissioners heard from county attorney Jana Berg regarding the purchase. Berg said the purchase price was good for the property and the county will be responsible for recording the deed. She said the anticipated closing date on the property would be May 30. 

Berg also said there is a lien on the property but she has been told that sometime during the next year the lien will be released. 

Commissioners approved all motions unanimously regarding the property purchase.
