Polk COVID deaths jump to 24

County currently has 107 active cases

POLK COUNTY—Polk County added another 72 cases of COVID-19 last week and 7 deaths, according to the county’s latest figures from last Friday. 

Polk County has now had a total of 1,189 cases of the virus, which is up from 1,117 the week before. The county was steady at 15 deaths for a while, then added another 2 deaths 2 weeks ago and went from 17 deaths to 24 deaths last week.

As of Friday, the county still had 14 pending tests and a percent positive of 8.5 percent. The week prior’s percent positive was 13 percent when the county added 80 cases. 

Polk has completed a total of 15,651 tests. There were 52 cumulative hospitalizations as of last Friday. The trend has actually gone down some in the last couple of week for percent positives. 

Most of the county’s cases continue to be in women at 54.08 percent as of Friday and 45.92 percent in men. The most cases have also been in people age 25-49, followed by people age 50-64, people age 75 and above, people age 65-74 and people age 0-17 and age 18-24, according to the latest data. 

Polk County has switched to concentrating more on vaccinating people rather than testing in the last month or so. 

The county has administered a total of 1,750 vaccines, as of Friday’s data.
