Kocher named WNC Big Sister of the Year
Polk County resident Susan Kocher was recently named Western North Carolina Big Sister of the Year during National Mentoring Month.
Susan has been a Big Sister to her Little Malia with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Polk for over two years. She is a member of the local BBBS-Polk Advisory Council and a Polk representative on the WNC BBBS Regional Board.
Through the mentoring relationship, Susan introduced her Little Sister Malia to horse riding competitions. Malia recently won 2 blue ribbons in her Over Fence classes at the Riverbend Equestrian Center for IEA (Interscholastic Equestrian Association). Malia now qualifies for the regional competition being held at the Tryon International Equestrian Center next month.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Polk is honored to have Susan represent WNC at the State Competition for North Carolina Big Sister of the Year.
Susan exemplifies what it means to be Big. She has ignited her Little Sisters’ potential and, through their mentoring relationship, created a love for horse riding that may not have been possible without her incredible Big Sister, Susan.
