ASHEVILLE – Grace Burnette Gilbert, 89, of Asheville passed away Sunday afternoon, January 10, 2021 at her home.

 

Born in Polk County, she was the daughter of the late Elbert “Eb” Simpson Burnette, Sr. and Pearl Tallant Burnette and wife of the late Grayson O. Gilbert who passed away in 2003. Mrs. Gilbert worked many years at C.P. Clare in Asheville. She enjoyed knitting Christmas stockings and knitted hats for the babies at Mission Hospital.  Mrs. Gilbert was a member of the Church of Christ in Asheville.

 

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Keith Gilbert; four brothers and two sisters.

 

Surviving are three sons, Curtis Gilbert (Sandi) of Taylorsville, NC, Clyde Gilbert (Polly) and Treavis Gilbert (Lyn) both of Denver, NC; one sister, Myrtle Chapman of Abbeville, SC. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

 

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 13, 2021 in Polk Memorial Gardens, Columbus with Mr. Curtis Gilbert officiating.
