Mill Spring – Billy Phillip McCall, 89, longtime resident of Polk County died peacefully on Tuesday, December 15th at Marjorie McCune Memorial Center, Black Mountain, NC. 

He was born in Mecklenburg County, NC and the adopted son of the late William S. (dec.) and May Cochran (dec.) McCall of Lynn, NC. Billy was an Army Veteran of the Korean War, longtime employee of Milliken, Hatch Mill, member of the Polk County Honor Guard, Polk County Volunteer of the Year Award 1984, and Founding member and Deacon of Faith Baptist Church, Mill Spring, NC.

Billy is preceded in death by his wife, Martha Ann Garrett and his son, James Phillip McCall (Susan), Marion, NC. Surviving are two daughters, Wanda Gorges (Dennis) of Brentwood, TN and Sandra White (Bruce) of Verbena, AL.  He has one grandchild, Andrew (Andy) McCall (Brandi), four great-grandchildren (Brandon (Kolby), Daniel, Elijah, Jazmine) and one great-great grandchild (Nail-eli Paris Faye). Billy has an extended family of sisters, half-brothers, nieces, nephews and cousins from his birth family.

A private graveside service will be held in January 2021 at Faith Baptist Church, Mill Spring, NC. A Memorial to celebrate Billy’s life will be announced at a later date.  

In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to Marjorie McCune Memorial Center, 101 Lions Way, Black Mountain, NC 28711 or Faith Baptist Church, 265 NC-9, Mill Spring, NC 28756.
