GREEN CREEK, NC—Callie Mae Holmes Jackson, 90, of Green Creek, NC passed away on Saturday, December 5, 2020 surrounded by her family. Callie was born in Floyd County in the Texas Panhandle on October 18, 1930. She was the daughter of the late John and Eula Hampton Holmes. She lived on the family farm in Lockney, Texas until she married Troy L. Jackson on July 8, 1949. Together, they moved to Green Creek, NC to start their life together. “Mama Cal” and Poppie Troy loved to visit friends and visit the sick in the hospitals. She loved working
in her yard and had many flower beds all around her yard and in the woods nearby. Mama Cal was always ready to help her family and friends at any time. She especially loved babysitting for all of her family and friends. Surviving are two sons, Barry W. Jackson (Elyse) and Benny Jackson (Brenda) both of Green Creek, NC; two daughters, Sharon J. Hughes (Jack) and Wanda N. Mortenson both of Green Creek, NC; a special nephew, Glen Cannon (Linda) of Texas; a sister, Betsy Snow of Amarillo, TX; thirteen grandchildren, thirty-eight great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Troy L. Jackson; her daughter, Karen E. Jackson; a grandson, Joseph B. Jackson; a great-grandson, Tyler Hutcherson; and a great-
granddaughter, Jordan Armstrong. A funeral will be held 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 10, 2020 at Green Creek First Baptist Church with Rev. Allen McKinney, Rev. Jim Hooper, and Rev. Shane Jackson officiating. Social distancing guidelines will be followed. Burial will follow in the Green Creek First Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the cemetery following the burial. Due to COVID-19, in lieu of a visitation, Mrs. Jackson will lie in state at McFarland Funeral Chapel in Tryon, NC on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for friends wishing to pay their final respects.
