Head-on collision occurred Sunday on Highway 11

CAMPOBELLO—A Campobello man was killed Sunday morning in a head-on crash.

Othel Wayne Pruitt, 73, died at the scene, according to the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office.

Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger said on Sunday that his office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol was called to 8026 Highway 11 at approximately 8:30 a.m. in reference to a 2-vehicle collision that resulted in 1 fatality.

Pruitt lived on Wilkins Road in Campobello and was pronounced deceased at the scene of the wreck, according to Clevenger.

The other person involved was transported to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center with injuries, but Clevenger said Sunday morning that the victim was alert and coherent during transport.

An examination of Pruitt was scheduled for Monday.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol said the injured driver crossed the center line and struck Pruitt’s car head on.

The crash is still under investigation by the highway patrol.
