Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

The Tryon Concert Association honored Gwen Suesse, who served as president of the Tryon Concert Association for twelve years, at a recent board meeting. New president, Kymric Mahnke, presented Gwen with a Certificate of Appreciation and an arrangement of flowers.

Under Gwen’s leadership, TCA enhanced its position as a leader in arts organizations in the Tryon area. She points to the TCA’s sophisticated and user-friendly website, which established TCA as a modern, 21st century institution.

Important innovations under Gwen’s presidency include TGIF concerts, informal Friday evening concerts noted for interaction between performers and audience members. A-OK, Arts Outreach for Kids, a combined effort between TCA and Tryon Fine Arts Center, introduced area students to performances by world class musicians.

Another area of innovation during Gwen’s tenure has been TCA’s association with Young Concert Artists, an organization that supports and promotes talented young musicians. Several years ago, Gwen and board member Carole Bartol traveled to New York to attend the YCA auditions. They chose audition winners Omer String Quartet to receive the TCA Prize and give a performance here in Tryon, which took place this past winter.

Gwen’s guiding philosophy for heading the Board of Directors has been simple. Board members must “love music and play well with others,” advice given to her by past president Phil Cooper. Board members have long appreciated both Gwen’s profound love for and knowledge of music, but they also point to the respect and friendship she brought to her dealings with other members of the organization.

Gwen’s leadership and collegiality have been very much appreciated for the last twelve years. TCA is pleased to honor Gwen for her service and thank her for her friendship.
