Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

There are so many people who need good sources for fresh food – right now and well into the future. So we are starting a “Victory Garden” campaign.

If you have a yard, set aside an area to grow some vegetables. If you are in a condo or an apartment, you can probably find a space on a balcony or porch to start a pot garden, even if it’s just one large pot.

An abundance of starter plants are available locally. Check out the IGA and Down to Earth Garden Center in Tryon to name just a couple of places. You’ll be surprised at how much you can grow in a small space. Pick out tomato, yellow squash, butternut squash, zucchini, cucumber, green bean or any other vegetables you choose. They are easy to grow and don’t require a lot of maintenance.

When the crops come in, drop your produce off at Tryon Toy Makers and Carolina Confections next to The Bottle in downtown Tryon. We’ll get the veggies to Thermal Belt Outreach Ministries, which is in great need of these items, especially for children.

So please take a little time and make a little effort to help out the many folks who are going to need a lot of fresh food for a very long time. You’ll be glad you did.
