Don’t flush the other stuff

Saluda issues alert to not flush paper towels

SALUDA—With the Coronavirus threat making some commodities like toilet paper hard to find, the City of Saluda is urging residents to not flush paper towels or wipes down the toilet.

Saluda issued a statement to its utility customers on Monday saying anything other than toilet paper stops up the city’s sewer pumps and does considerable damage to the wastewater treatment plant.

“We know it’s hard to find toilet paper at the store right now, but please do not flush paper towels or wipes down the toilet,” said the city. “Doing so stops up our sewer pumps and does considerable damage to our wastewater treatment plant. Please dispose of all paper towels and wipes in the garbage, even if products are labeled as ‘flushable.’”
