Tuesday, February 27, 45 Kindergarten students from Polk County Central Elementary School participated in a hand built, pinchpot workshop led by TACS instructor Sam Oliver.
Each student was given two balls of clay. One of the balls was used to create the pot. From the second ball the kids formed and attached animal features to their pinchpots.
Any kind of animal with the required eyes, ears, nose, and whiskers were allowed. Finished works included cats, bunnies and a koala. Each student also visited the TACS pottery and weaving studios for demonstrations in wheel-thrown ceramics and loom weaving. Students were also allowed to view the Tryon Arts and Craft School’s Heritage Collection.
This trip is made possible by a grant from the Polk County Community Foundation.
