The Saluda Station building on the corner of Main and Church St. in Saluda has been in renovation for the past year. In addition to the announcement that the Saluda Visitor Center will accommodate retail space on the main level, the opening of the Saluda Station Suites on the second floor will be available for short-term rentals beginning March 1, 2020.

Staying with the railroad theme, Apartment 20-3 will be named “Carolina Special”, a passenger train that traveled from Charleston to Asheville and discontinued in 1968. Apartment 20-4 will be named “The 611” which was the first diesel engine up the Saluda Grade putting an end to the steam locomotive on the grade.

The building was originally a Gulf Service Station built in the 1950’s and was remodeled in 1983/1984. The architecture is a reproduction of the neighboring Saluda Historic Depot.

This is a great location for lodging in the heart of downtown Saluda giving visitors an easy walk across the street to restaurants, coffee shops, brews and unique shopping. The views overlooking Main St, will set the mood for a comforting stay in these new apartments with new amenities, new décor and a bit of railroad wistfulness.

“The “Saluda Visitor Center” is a GIANT step in the future of our town and reflects quite favorably on current leadership of the Saluda Business Association, Saluda Downtown Foundation and City of Saluda. As a part time resident and native of Saluda I am extremely proud to see this project come to fruition and want to be a part of its success,” says Clark Thompson, proprietor of the Saluda Station.

Centrally located, the Saluda Station is an outpost to start mountain adventures, whether it be exploring mountain trails and rivers, delighting in local artwork, discovering the local breweries in the area or visiting downtown Hendersonville, Flat Rock, Asheville, Spartanburg or Greenville.
