Edward Patton McCall, 82, husband of Maria Ravenel McCall, of Saluda, NC died peacefully at The Elizabeth House in Flat Rock, NC on Friday, February 14, 2020. 

 

Pat was born in Anniston, Alabama to Edward Emmett McCall and Elizabeth Johnston McCall in 1937. He graduated from McCallie School in Chattanooga and  Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn University) through the Naval ROTC with a BS degree in Industrial Management.

After Auburn, he served in the Navy on the destroyer USS Johnston, the aircraft carrier USS Lake Champlain and the battleship USS Iowa. While based in Charleston, SC he met Maria on a blind date.  Ten months later, they were married at St. Michael’s Church in Charleston. After the Navy, Pat earned his master’s degree in Industrial Management at Georgia Tech. In 1964 Pat started a career with Milliken & Company in Spartanburg, SC.

 

In 1983, after resigning from Milliken,  Pat and Maria opened The Spice of Life Restaurant, which was in business for over 15 years.  During this time, Pat began cycling and completed over 81,000 miles in his lifetime, including successfully finishing the Assault on Mt. Mitchell (a 100-mile ride with a mountain top finish) 16 times.

 

Next, Pat then became a realtor with McDaniel & Company selling commercial real estate for many years.

 

About 12 years ago, Pat and Maria moved to Saluda, NC where they both became active members of the community and The Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration. 

 

Surviving him are his wife Maria Ravenel McCall, daughter Alice McCall Branam (Doug), son Edward Patton McCall, Jr. (Amy) and grandchildren David Root, Jr., Conor McCall, and Natasha McCall.  Also surviving is his sister, Elizabeth McCall Vandever and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Alice McCall Lawrence.

 

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2020 at The Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration at 1:00 PM, 72 Charles Street, Saluda, NC 28773. Memorials may be made to the church.  The family will receive friends after the service at The Saluda Senior Center at 64 Greenville Street, Saluda, NC.
