City approves conditional use permit for Holbert Cove Road
SALUDA—Saluda will soon have self-storage units along Holbert Cove Road.
The Saluda Board of Commissioners met last week and after holding a public hearing, approved a conditional use permit for 1734 Holbert Cove Road.
The Saluda Planning and Zoning staff recommended approval, saying the proposed conditional zoning is allowed based on the city’s zoning ordinance Section 5.11 (Conditional Use Districts-C-U-C-2) and 5.14 (the table of permitted uses-self storage. The use is also consistent with the city’s 2003 comprehensive plan and consistent with the interstate Basin Overlay District.
“It is a reasonable commercial use for the area based upon the property’s proximity to interstate highway I-26 for public access,” zoning officer Steven Orr said.
The application was submitted by Don Mintz, who is proposing 40 mini storage units with a building size of 5,760 square feet.
According to the Polk County Building Inspection Department, there will be three strip buildings made of 8-12 shipping containers each to be used for self-storage.
