County looks back on last decade

COLUMBUS—Polk County’s emergency calls dispatched has increased by more than 400 a year in the last decade. 

The Polk County Board of Commissioners was recently presented its annual audit report for fiscal year 2018-2019, which ended June 30, 2019. The audit report contains statistical information about the county over the last decade.

EMS calls in 2010 were 2,917, compared to 3,320 calls dispatched in 2019. 

The lowest number of calls over the last decade occurred in 2012 with 2,617 calls total for the year. The highest number of calls over the last decade was in 2019 at 3,320 calls. 

There have been more than 3,000 calls per year since 2015, when there were 3,237 calls, compared to the previous year, which had 2,725 calls, according to the audit report. 

During the years 2016, 2017 and 2018, calls dipped slightly from 2015, but increased again in 2019.
