Polk County Schools Superintendent Aaron Greene said it was a parking brake misapplication after the route was complete. School officials believe there is no damage to the bus but it was towed Thursday afternoon to be checked out completely before being back on the route.

The bus was number 113 for Tryon Elementary School.

Greene said Polk County Schools has had a couple of parking brake mishaps over the years with a driver thinking the brake is set and it is not. The buses at Tryon park on a steep hill and in this case the brake was not set and the tire got over the edge and pulled the bus over the hill.

The driver was able to stop the bus before it went completely over the edge.
