Polk’s median age continues to grow

School enrollment stays on a decline over last decade

POLK COUNTY—While Polk County’s median age continues to rise over the last decade, its school enrollment has declined. 

The Polk County Board of Commissioners was recently presented its audit report, which contains statistical information regarding the county since 2010.

The audit report was for fiscal year 2018-2019, which ended June 30, 2019.

Polk County’s median age in 2010 was 47.08 compared to the median age in 2019 of 52.10. 

The median age has steadily increased since 2010, with it being 47.17 in 2011; 49.58 in 2012; 49.68 in 2013; 50.01 in 2014; 50.36 in 2015; 51.06 in 2016; 51.29 in 2017; 51.80 in 2018 and 52.10 in 2019. 

While the median age continues to increase slightly every year, the school enrollment has dropped from 2,385 in 2010 to 2,099 in 2019, according to the audit report. 

While the school enrollment has dipped up and down slightly over the last decade, the school enrollment has essentially dropped by almost 300 students over a 10-year period. 

The school enrollment was 2,355 in 2011; 2,293 in 2012; 2,294 in 2013; 2,246 in 2014; 2,276 in 2015; 2,167 in 2016; 2,147 in 2017; 2,098 in 2018 and 2,099 in 2019, according to the audit report. 

Enrollment was just one student added between 2018 and 2019.
