Polk’s unemployment rate one of lowest in decade

Polk’s audit report includes statistical date from last 10 years

COLUMBUS—Polk County’s unemployment rate was 4.5 percent as of the county’s fiscal year 2019, which was one of the lowest rates in the last decade. 

Polk County recently was presented its audit report for year-end 2018-2019, which ended June 30, 2019.

There is statistical data included in the audit report, including the county’s unemployment rate since 2010. 

The county’s unemployment rate in 2010 was 8.1 percent, which was the highest over the last almost decade. 

The unemployment rate dropped to 7.7 percent in 2011, then rose back to 8 percent in 2012. 

The rate dropped significantly between 2012 and 2013 to 6.9 percent and has been fairly steady since 2013. 

The unemployment rate dropped from 6.9 percent to 4.7 percent between 2013 and 2014, then back up to 5.7 percent in 2015 and has been less than 5 percent since 2016. 

The rate in 2016 was 4.9 percent, which dropped to 4 percent in 2017, then up slightly to 4.1 percent in 2018 and then 4.5 percent in 2019, according to the audit report.
