Over 175 senior citizens were in attendance as the Unity in the Community Organization recently sponsored 8th Annual Sharing in the Community Senior Citizen Christmas Social.

The band, which consisted of Stephen Staley, Corey McDowell and Chris Meeks, provided music for the evening. Accompanying the band were soloists Taron Kelly and Madison Dover. Nicole Twitty served as the Mistress of Ceremony.

Area youth, UITC board members and other volunteers helped with the delicious catered meal. The evening was filled with lots of joy, laughter, fun and fellowship.

A segment of this year’s Christmas social was dedicated to honor and pay special tribute to two Polk County educators who passed away this year. Edna D. Michaels and Evelyn D. Petty, both spent many years teaching in the Polk County School System, were honored for their dedication to education and community involvement. Two former students gave remarks and presented the families with an engraved glass award.

The Sharing in the Community Senior Citizen Christmas social was made possible by a grant from the Polk County Community Foundation and it’s Christmas Cheer Fund.
