Although rain and chilly weather have been recently on the menu, home gardeners begin to dream of spring blooms and getting their hands into the dirt again. One of the easiest ways to fulfill those dreams is by planting berries in the early days of spring.

To help gardeners on their way, the Cooperative Extension of Polk County is hosting their annual berry and asparagus plant sale. This year, the Cooperative Extension director has chosen five varieties of blueberries, two varieties of raspberries, two varieties of strawberries, two varieties of blackberries, and one asparagus variety that have proven to specifically thrive in the North Carolina Foothills and South Carolina Upstate.

Orders will be accepted for plants now through February 22 and will be available for pickup in early-March. Proceeds from this fundraiser go to support the activities, classes and research that make the Cooperative Extension such a vital part of the Polk County community.
