Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Marye Jayne Hughes, 86, formerly of Tryon and Columbus NC, passed away on December 25, 2019, in Winston-Salem, NC, due to complications from Parkinson’s disease.

Jayne was born on December 31, 1933, in Owosso, MI, to John Conrad and Helen Kremer. She overcame many obstacles early in her life and became a very strong person as a result. Jayne was warm, funny, and caring.  She had a brilliant smile and if you “clicked” with her, you became an instant friend. For more than 20 years, Jayne served as a massage therapist in Tryon and she loved her clients. She deeply loved Tryon and the North Carolina mountains and found great peace and solace in their beauty.  She also loved animals, children, books, Native American culture, good food and nature.

Jayne is survived by her husband, Howard Highsmith of Winston-Salem, and her son, Greg Barker and wife Debbie of St. Petersburg, FL. She also leaves behind a large group of extended family members in Michigan and California whom she loved very much, and with whom she enjoyed several wonderful visits in recent years. Over her life, Jayne developed a “chosen family” of loyal female friends of all ages and backgrounds; they became “Jayne’s Girls” and were very dear to her.
