Students evaluated; minimal damage to Bus 126

POLK COUNTY—A Polk County School bus was involved in an accident Tuesday afternoon, but there were no serious injuries.

Polk County Schools Superintendent Aaron Greene said bus 126 was traveling west on Interstate 26 Tuesday afternoon when another vehicle pulling a trailer swerved into the right lane causing its trailer to impact the driver side front of the bus.

“Students were assessed and then transferred to another bus or released to their parents to finish their trip home,” Greene said. “We are glad to report that we do not believe there are any serious injuries.”

The school system sent an all-call Tuesday afternoon following the incident.

Greene thanked the North Carolina Highway Patrol, all emergency service personnel from Saluda and Polk County and the Polk County Schools Transportation Department for their quick response and assistance.

Greene said damage to the bus should be able to be repaired. Damage was done to the front bumper, wheel hub and mirror.
